In 'Toolbox Murders', a serial killer preys on young women in an apartment complex called Essex House. The victims are brutally murdered with tools found in the building's maintenance toolbox. A reporter, Nell Barrows, investigates the murders after her friend is killed. She teams up with a handyman, Barney, who knows more about the killings than he initially lets on.
