Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945, is mysteriously transported back in time to 18th-century Scotland after touching a standing stone at Craigh Na Dun. She finds herself in the midst of the Jacobite rebellion and soon becomes entangled with Jamie Fraser, a young Scottish warrior.
