In 1970s Buenos Aires, Maria Fabiani, an 18-year-old French-Argentinian, lives with her mother Diane in a house where they sublet rooms and teach illiterate adults. One of their tenants, Felix, harbors unrequited feelings for Maria. When Argentinean military forces abduct Maria from their home, accusing her of subversion, Diane desperately searches for information about her daughter's whereabouts. Meanwhile, Maria is imprisoned in the notorious Garage Olimpo detention center and subjected to torture by military officers.
