In Galicia, Spain during the 1930s, superstitions persist despite modernization. When a mute holy fool named Coitadino discovers the drained corpse of a young girl in the forest, the villagers believe it's the work of witches who can transform into harmful spirits after death. The two known witches remain silent about the ritual used to kill the girl, and the wealthy landowner Don Rosendo hosts lavish parties at his mansion that often descend into debauchery. As suspicions swirl, Coitadino becomes determined to uncover the truth behind the girl's murder.
