Rachel Griffiths, born Rachel Anne Griffiths AM on December 18, 1968 in Melbourne, Australia, is an accomplished Australian actress known for her roles in films like 'Muriel's Wedding' and 'Hilary and Jackie'. She won critical acclaim for her performances as Brenda Chenowith in the HBO series 'Six Feet Under' and Sarah Walker Laurent on the ABC drama 'Brothers & Sisters'. Griffiths attended Melbourne University, studying philosophy before pursuing acting at Victoria School of the Arts. In late 19th century England, Jude, an intelligent yet naive stonemason, strives to escape rural poverty by pursuing a university education in Christminster. After his wife Arabella abandons him, Jude moves there and falls deeply in love with Sue, his beautiful and clever cousin. Despite their connection, Sue is hurt when she learns of Jude's previous marriage and marries another man out of spite. Penniless and barred from the university, Jude returns home. Years later, at their aunt's funeral, Sue confesses her unhappiness to Jude, sparking an illicit affair between them until Sue's husband steps aside.
