In the working-class neighborhood of God's Pocket in Philadelphia, Mickey Scarpato's step-son Leon dies in a construction 'accident.' Nobody in the tight-knit community mourns his passing as he was known for causing trouble. Mickey tries to keep the circumstances of Leon's death quiet but is confronted by the boy's mother, Jeanne, who demands the truth. This sets off a chain reaction of events that entangle Mickey in a web of deceit, as he struggles to hide the body and keep his wife happy while also dealing with mounting debts.
