She developed an interest in acting at a young age, making her professional stage debut as Juliet in Shakespeare's play. After studying acting at the Juilliard School, she had recurring roles in television series like Law & Order: Trial by Jury before gaining wide recognition for her performances in films such as Take Shelter (2011), The Help (2011), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). She won a Golden Globe Award and received an Academy Award nomination for her role in Zero Dark Thirty.
