Thanks for Sharing follows Adam (Mark Ruffalo), a sex addict celebrating five years of sobriety with the help of his sponsor Mike (Tim Robbins). When new mentee Neil (Josh Gad) enters their lives, he struggles with his own addiction and becomes obsessed with women, including those at his workplace. Meanwhile, Adam meets Phoebe (Gwyneth Paltrow), a woman who seems perfect for him, but is hesitant to start a relationship due to his past addiction. As Adam navigates this new romance, Mike faces difficulties reconnecting with his former drug-addicted son who has recently returned home. Neil, in turn, finds solace and understanding in a platonic friendship with another woman from their sex addicts group.
