Set in an elegant early-20th-century Parisian brothel, 'L'Apollonide' follows the lives of its inhabitants—a madam and her women who face various challenges. The women's expenses outweigh their earnings, leading them into debt. They grapple with issues such as pregnancy, opium addiction, aging, and violent clients. One woman pursues sociological studies, risking punishment from the controlling madam. Occasionally, a client promises marriage, offering false hope. Despite their circumstances, friendships and camaraderie flourish among the women. The madam seeks influential clients' help to resolve a dispute with her landlord. Throughout the film, there are scenes of celebration (a summer picnic), reflection (a wake), and masquerade (an evening in masks). In the end, we witness a contemporary Paris street scene as a coda.
