The Borgias (2011) is a historical drama that follows the rise and reign of the powerful Borgia family in Renaissance Italy. Rodrigo Borgia (played by Jeremy Irons), a cunning and ambitious cardinal, ascends to become Pope Alexander VI after a fierce election battle. Once elected, he faces numerous enemies from within the Church hierarchy and neighboring states who seek to undermine his power.
