Michelle Ingrid Williams, born September 9, 1980, is an American actress known for her roles in independent films with dark themes. Raised by politician and trader Larry R. Williams, she began acting at age fifteen after gaining emancipation from her parents. Williams rose to fame playing Jen Lindley in Dawson's Creek (1998–2003) before earning critical acclaim for roles like Ennis del Mar in Brokeback Mountain (2005), Wendy in Wendy and Lucy (2008), and Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn (2011). She has won two Golden Globes, for My Week with Marilyn and Fosse/Verdon (2019), and one Emmy for the latter. Williams also starred on Broadway in Cabaret (2014) and Blackbird (2016). She is an advocate for equal pay and consistently private about her personal life. Williams has a daughter from her relationship with Heath Ledger, was briefly married to Phil Elverum, and currently has two children with husband Thomas Kail.
