W.E. is a romantic drama that interweaves two love stories set apart by six decades. In modern-day New York, Wally Winthrop (Abbie Cornish), a married woman and an employee at Sotheby's, becomes captivated by the story of Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough) and her affair with King Edward VIII that led to his abdication in 1936. As Wally delves deeper into their love story, she becomes increasingly obsessed and begins to see parallels between her own life and that of Wallis. Through Wally's growing fascination, we witness the tragic love story of Wallis and Edward unfold, interspersed with Wally's own crumbling marriage.
