In 'A Dangerous Method', Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley), a young Russian woman suffering from hysteria, is admitted to Dr. Carl Jung's (Michael Fassbender) clinic in Zurich. Under Jung's care and influenced by Sigmund Freud's talking cure, Spielrein begins to unravel her traumatic past involving her cruel father. Intelligent and ambitious, she aspires to become a psychiatrist herself. As Spielrein improves, she and Jung grow closer, eventually embarking on an intense romantic affair despite his marriage. Meanwhile, Freud (Viggo Mortensen) takes Jung under his wing, seeing him as his protégé and the future of psychoanalysis. However, their relationship becomes strained when Jung begins to diverge from Freud's beliefs about the limitations of psychoanalysis in treating mental illnesses.
