Martha Travis, a medium, holds public performances where she connects spirits with their living loved ones. During one session, she receives a message for Mary Kuron from her husband Tom, who is still alive. Shockingly, Martha predicts Tom's impending death and reveals his murderer to the audience. The killer becomes aware of Martha's revelation and seeks to eliminate her before she exposes him further. Martha's exploitative manager and father, Walter Travis, along with skeptical journalist Gary Wallace who becomes infatuated with Martha, try to protect her.
