Story

Storia di Piera is a complex narrative revolving around the incestuous relationship between a mother and daughter, Eugenia and Piera Degli Esposti. The story unfolds in a small provincial Italian town where Eugenia, a liberated woman with a penchant for zooming around on her bicycle and engaging strangers at the train station, lives with her spaced-out husband, Professor Lorenzo. Still a grown child, Piera is drawn into her mother's sexual exploits with other men, leading to both physical health issues and emotional instability. This unconventional lifestyle takes its toll as Eugenia is repeatedly committed to psychiatric clinics. By the time Piera grows up, both of her parents are institutionalized in separate mental hospitals, each exhibiting sexually eccentric behaviors.

Summary

Storia di Piera (1983), directed by Marco Ferreri, is a biographical drama based on the life of Italian theater actress Piera Degli Esposti. The film focuses primarily on Eugenia, Piera's mother, and their incestuous relationship. Set in a small Italian town, the story explores themes of sexual liberation, mental illness, and the complex dynamics of family relationships. While it is loosely based on Piera's autobiography, the narrative leans more towards Eugenia's character and experiences.
