Enzo and Jacques were childhood friends who shared a passion for diving in the Mediterranean. After Jacques' father died during a dive, Enzo and Jacques lost contact. Years later, Johanna, an insurance clerk, meets Jacques in Peru where he is being studied by scientists due to his exceptional ability to withstand extreme conditions underwater, resembling dolphins more than humans. Intrigued by Jacques, Johanna finds out about an upcoming diving championship in Taormina, Sicily, where Enzo, the reigning champion, expects Jacques to challenge him. Johanna travels to Italy under false pretenses to see Jacques again. There, she and Jacques grow closer, but his affinity for underwater life makes it challenging for him to connect emotionally with humans. The rivalry between Enzo and Jacques intensifies, pushing both men to dangerous limits.
