Selma Blair Beitner, born June 23, 1972, is an American actress known for her roles in 'Legally Blonde' (2001), 'The Sweetest Thing' (2002), and as Liz Sherman in the 'Hellboy' series (2004, 2008). After training at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting, Blair began her acting career with small roles before gaining recognition for her portrayal of Zoe Bean in 'Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane' (1999-2000) and winning an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss in 'Cruel Intentions' (1999). She has also appeared in independent films like 'Storytelling' (2001), and numerous other movies. Blair revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis earlier that year.

In New York City, a series of grisly murders occur, with victims found mutilated and bearing the equation 'wΔz = Cov(w,z) = ÃYwzVz' carved onto their skin. Upon investigation, Captain Maclean and his officers Eddie Argo and Helen Westcott discover that each victim was forced to choose between sacrificing their own life or a loved one's. As they delve deeper into the case, it becomes apparent that the killer is driven by a personal philosophical crisis related to the equation, seeking resolution before stopping.
