Transamerica follows Bree Osbourne, a transgender woman on the brink of undergoing sexual reassignment surgery, who receives an unexpected call from Toby Wilkins, her estranged teenage son. Though initially reluctant to engage with her past, Bree decides to travel cross-country with Toby after bailing him out of jail. Disguising herself as a Christian social worker and concealing her transgender status, Bree navigates this journey while trying to decide what's best for Toby and ensure she returns in time for her scheduled surgery.
