Keira Knightley, born March 26, 1985, in London to actors Will Knightley and Sharman Macdonald, began her acting career at age six with commercials and television films. She gained worldwide recognition for her role as Elizabeth Swann in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series (2003-2007). Notable performances include her Academy Award-nominated roles in 'Pride & Prejudice' (2005) and 'The Imitation Game' (2014). Knightley has also appeared in stage productions such as 'The Misanthrope' (2009), 'The Children's Hour' (2011), and 'Thérèse Raquin' (2015). In late 19th century France, married silkworm trader Hervé Joncour travels to Japan after a disease wipes out his town's supply of silkworms. His mission is to acquire healthy silkworm eggs for his business. Upon arriving in Japan, he becomes captivated by a young concubine belonging to a local baron. Despite the language barrier, they communicate through letters and develop an intense connection. However, when war breaks out in Japan, the concubine flees, forcing Hervé to return home to his wife Hélène. Back in France, Hélène grows suspicious of her husband's infidelity due to his continued obsession with the Japanese woman.
