Viva Laldjérie tells the story of three women navigating life in contemporary Algiers between modern society and Islamic fundamentalism. The narrative centers around Gouchem, a young woman working for a photographer who is also the mistress of a wealthy doctor. Her mother, Papicha, once a cabaret star, lives with them in their hotel apartment in downtown Algiers. Gouchem's best friend Fifi, a prostitute, also resides with them.
