Charlie Cross, a wealthy and successful solicitor, leads a safe but dull life until he meets Viola, the wife of his latest criminal client Edgar Bosco. Despite being married himself, Charlie becomes instantly smitten with Viola's beauty and mystery. The affair begins innocently enough, but it soon consumes Charlie, who finds himself increasingly obsessed with Viola.
