Based on Luiz Ruffato's novel, 'Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você' (2015) follows a narrative structure inspired by oral interviews, with the main character addressing the camera directly. The story explores themes of emigration, dreams, and disappointments through the experiences of Brazilians who move to Portugal. It was shot in Cataguases, Brazil, and Lisbon, Portugal, with both professional actors and non-actors drawn from communities with similar stories to those described in the book.

'Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você' is a Brazilian-Portuguese co-production directed by José Barahona, his first feature film after living in Brazil for several years.
