In the inner-city neighborhood of London, a successful landscape architect named Will (Jude Law) has an affair with Amira (Vera Farmiga), a Bosnian woman who was widowed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their relationship develops amidst the backdrop of Will's involvement in a petty theft operation alongside his associates, Miro (Ben Miles) and Terry (Ralph Fiennes).
