Big Sur follows Jack Kerouac after he leaves New York for California in search of redemption and to escape his self-destructive lifestyle. The movie is set over three weeks in August 1960, as Kerouac stays at an isolated cabin in the Big Sur woods. During his stay, Kerouac struggles with his mental state, battling paranoia, sex, delirium tremens, and misery. He experiences hallucinations and a breakdown but ultimately emerges with some sense of peace and optimism.
